How it all began! Kate grew up in Kansas City, Missouri. Her career was in the fashion business. While working in a men's clothing store, she met Andy Spade, who also worked there. In 1986 they moved to New York. Kate always searching for just that right handbag, thought it would be easier and much more interesting if she were to create her own. So together, Kate and Andy decided to take a chance and start out small by designing six simple shapes. colors and fabrics. Needless to say, these six designs became their signature styles.
In 1993 Kate and now husband, Andy Spade and partners launched "Kate Spade" handbags. Their first shop openned in 1996 in New York and continued to grow from there. Although their handbags started out being made in the USA, they are now also being made in many other countries such as Italy, China, Taiwan and even the Dominican Republic, Indonesia and the Phillipines.
You won't just find her handbags anymore. As their company continues to grow, so does their merchandise, now offering such items as shoes, fashion accessories, home accessories, shoes, books, sunglasses and more.
